The country has recorded its highest number of Covid-19 deaths in 24 hours – 111 fatalities.
The number of confirmed positive cases now stands at 106 108, exactly 111 days since the country recorded its first case.
In a statement issued on Tuesday night, the Department of Health said the death toll stood at 2 102 – with one from Mpumalanga, four from KwaZulu-Natal, 28 from the Eastern Cape and 78 from the Western Cape.
“We wish to express our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased,” Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said.
The number of tests conducted so far stands at 1 382 772.
The department said the number of recoveries stood at 55 045 which translated to a recovery rate of 51.9%.
