Job description
We are looking for experienced freelance political writers/cartoonists from across the country – no chancers please!
You will need to have two years’ experience writing politically-inclined articles or drawing politically-motivated cartoons with a proven track record – if you are a blogger or have a website we will accept a link to your most recent political piece.
Also, you will need to have a proven contact-base of political leaders and people in the political sphere whom you may have written about before and understand the political trends of South Africa.
You must have a unique take on what politics should and can be in South Africa to qualify, no holds barred. A sample of a recent past article or link to the blog will be advantageous here.
For you to qualify for an online interview you will need to submit the following:
- A brief CV outlining work experience with a brief motivation-letter about your stance on political media.
- Samples of work as mentioned above.
- A 450-word piece on what you think of the Covid-19 Lockdown concerning any governmental department.
- Please check your spelling, grammar and explain foreign words by use of italics before submitting it. Feel free to be yourself here, this piece could be factual, comical, autobiographical, etc.
- Please note: We are a fun group to work with so be as creative as you wish with your piece 🙂
- A recent photograph of yourself or caricature.

- Excellent wordsmith or artistic skill.
- Know your politics especially South Africa’s issues and positives.
- Be professional and fun to work with.
- Have a sense of humour.
- Understand the freelance media environment of deadlines and awesome work contributions in order to get paid well!
