A small but growing, boutique PR agency in Cape Town has an exciting job opportunity for a mid-weight Account Manager with a particular focus on media pitching and writing. This young and dynamic communications hub is looking for a creative and self-motivated team player! The successful candidate will take on a media manager role to place content for clients and oversee the media team. We’re looking for someone with key contacts who will train/mentor two junior staff, particularly on the media pitching side. From a writing perspective, you will work on opinion pieces, thought leadership pieces and press releases etc. The agency works with SMEs and you will work on the business, finance and tech portfolios – mostly consumer-focused. Responsibilities

• Communication framework development
• Story pitching – print, broadcast and online
• Copy and press release writing
• Securing coverage and spotting new opportunities
• Trade exchanges
• Managing and developing media relationships
• Development and management of comprehensive media lists
• Oversee and manage junior level staff
• Client liaison
• Status and action reports
• Client quotes
• Monthly reports
• Analysis reports
• Events – concept, management and budget
• Activations – concept, management and budget
• Strategic partnerships (media, stakeholders)
• Client reviews.

RequirementsThe successful candidate must have/be:

• Relevant University Degree
• Previous PR agency experience
• Excellent media relationships
• Top level writing skills
• Confident to pick up the phone and pitch a story
• Understanding of how the media machine works
• Good grasp of current affairs
• Being socially orientated would help – the bulk of clients are cause focused
• A team player
• Contribute to the business as whole
• Ability to work under pressure and fast turnaround times
• Able to multi-task and think on your feet
• Able to prioritise work and meet deadlines
• Able to work independently 
• Attention to detail a pre-requisite
• Able to meet realistic targets and deliverables
