Applications are invited for the position of: Producing Lecturer
As the Discipline Lecturer for Producing, AFDA is looking for a committed and dedicated industry professional to lecture and provide support to undergraduate students. The position requires someone with drive and initiative who is able to motivate and teach students both the practical organisational skills required of a producer, but also the creative and financial ability to put together a production from scratch. The candidate needs to demonstrate a willingness to embrace AFDA’s unique pedagogy which is the basis of the interdisciplinary teaching at AFDA. There is also a strong emphasis on cultural relevance within the teaching, and the need to help the students identify and develop a distinctive African voice to their productions. In this way we hope to be able to contribute to nation building and build the foundations for a sustainable local film industry.
The teaching will comprise of:
- Scheduling
- Budgeting
- Breaking down a script – translating concept into perceptual planning and
- concrete production realization.
- Production management
- Rights, rules and regulations
- Financing
- Creative producing
- Occupational Health and Safety
- Set protocols
Key Duties:
- Lecturing film students
- Planning and coordination of campus production festivals
- Liaising with Consortium, CLVA and other stakeholders on Experimental and
- Graduation Festivals
- Coordinating project teams and workgroups for relevant years
- Conducting student consultations and reflective meetings
- Preparing content and lesson plans for each term
- Assessment registration for the term’s assessments
- Working with counter-parts to ensure parity across all campuses on term
- outcomes
- Attendance registers and class management administration
- Timetable planning
- Curriculum and learning program development
- Class Control duties
Requirements and Personal Attributes:
- At least five years’ experience in the film and entertainment industry, and practical experience of producing in the either film or television is a requirement.
- Relevant Honours or Masters degree in Film and/or Media Studies with relevance to Producing.
- Computer literacy
- Highly developed organisational skills
- Initiative
- Maturity to handle a range of situations
- A meticulous and thorough nature
- An ability to work to tight deadlines
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Loyalty and a high level of confidentiality
