Oliver South Africa is looking for a highly skilled and experienced senior digital strategist for a contract opportunity to be based in our offices in the Northern suburbs of Durban (This will however be remote work until the lockdown is completed).
Role overview:
The SA studio is working cross-category, spanning Foods, Refreshment, Home Care and Beauty/ Personal Care. We are working on some of the best-loved brands, including OMO, Domestos, Comfort, Hellmann’s, Magnum, Knorr, Dove, Axe, Shield, Vaseline to name a few.
This role will be underpinned by passion and ambition, and those with experience in leading digital content and social campaigns within a creative agency will have an advantage. We are looking for someone who lives and breathes strategy and has a finger on the pulse of the latest and emerging trends and which brands are leading the way.
The strategist will report into the Business Director. This is a client-facing role, working closely with client brand team, central marketing project teams and client’s agency partners.

Responsibilities
- Develop digital strategies for cross-category (Personal Care, Homecare, Refreshment, Foods)
- Develop insights and strategic response to brief across campaign, content and New Product Development briefs
- Champion and drive a mobile first and short form content agenda
- Help evaluate ideas and concepts against best practice, strategy frameworks and mobile first
- Help establish effective ‘ways of working’ with internal teams and specialist partners
- Act as a subject matter expert ?and advises clients and the internal teams on approaches to effective Strategies that inform content briefs and requirements
- Assess, develop and implement effective strategies to meet client briefs across all necessary touchpoints
- Be a facilitator for ‘right first time content’ ensuring that we have the right insights and collaboration to direct content strategy development
- A driver of scalable content effectiveness leveraging learnings gained by the internal ‘Insight’ teams (CMI – PDC) and specialist partners
- Work with CMI / PDC functions in developing relevant measurement approaches and frameworks to ensure effectiveness is appropriately defined and tracked
Responsibilities
- The Strategist is a core function of the studio for the development of best in class strategy, content and multi-channel activity
- Responsible for the development of ‘best in class’ strategies informed by consumer, category, channel and performance insights supplied by internal Insight teams and relevant special partners
Tools and reports
- Gain a deep understanding of current tools available and demonstrate how they can add value to the business and our clients. This will be done through access to a combination of insight tools and reports under the guidance of Insight teams.
- Review the reporting on the Social Media accounts that are compiled by our content and community Manages to ensure they have clear key call outs for the month, that they are insight-driven and have key reccmmendations that add value to our clients brands.
Collaboration
- The Strategist will help develop strategic briefs and give agency briefings collaborating with the central team, brand, Insight media, and agency partner teams
- Collaboration on Audience targeting, User Experience?, Customer Journey?, Content Strategy, Editorial Calendars, Content Calendars, Content Guidelines, Distribution Strategy.
- The Strategist will work together with brand teams to help craft the right brief for the defined job to be done; including one-to-one meetings and larger working sessions, as well as check-in sessions with brand teams
Best Practice
- The Strategist will drive a ‘Best Practice’ approach to content and overall strategic quality assurance of content created within the Studio. This will be in line with Unilever global guidance, global platforms and partners
- The Strategist will work with the internal Insight team and specialist partners to support a ‘test and learn’ approach to content strategy, ensuring ‘effectiveness’ is a key tenant baked into all content marketing activity through the clear definition of KPI’s and metrics aligned with the projects measurement approach

Requirements
Experience and skills:
Qualifications and experience
- Minimum four years’ experience in a strategy role
- Understanding of Content Marketing (Social, Mobile, Search, Display, Dotcom, Ecom, Digital OHH)
- Understanding of Content: Formats, Performance, Testing, Optimisation and Search (SEM-SEO)
- Understanding of Content Publishing and Distribution methods and technologies
- Be able to present and justify work based on robust ‘insights’
- Passionate about all things related to Strategy and Content, with a keen interest in keeping up to date with trends and technological advances
- Proven experience of working in a multi-stakeholder environment
- A self-starter, able to work in fast paced environment as within a collaborative and agile team structure
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills
- Previous experience of FMCG in particular Personal Care or Beauty brands are a must

Other essential points to note
As we are working remotely, it is essential that the ideal candidate have the following in place to ensure there are no delays on delivering work timeously:
- Back-up power supply, if necessary.
- Stable internet connectivity – fibre connection preferable (options can be discussed) in order to connect to remote servers as well as conduct virtual meetings daily.
- Personal computer with relevant capabilities necessary for the role.
