CORE PURPOSE OF JOB |
The core purpose of this academic post is to facilitate and coordinate the learning process for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the isiXhosa section of the Language and Literature Department with, aiming to increase the number of postgraduate students in the isiXhosa section. |

• To facilitate and coordinate the learning processes in the department. • To conduct and publish research. • To perform academic and community engagement. • To perform administration. |

CORE COMPETENCIES |

• In-depth knowledge of isiXhosa Language and Literature. • Sound knowledge and experience in teaching and applying literary theories. • Experience in supervision of postgraduate theses and dissertations to completion. • Experience in developing new modules and the ability to revise and improve existing modules in response to shifts in programme requirements and predicted expansion. |

REQUIREMENTS |

The candidates must possess: Lecturer: • A master’s degree in isiXhosa • At least three years’ experience in teaching isiXhosa to non-mother tongue speakers and service courses at tertiary level. • Experience in supervision of postgraduate theses to completion • Experience of and a qualification in translation studies. Interpreting will be an advantage • Strong potential for research article output. • If shortlisted, candidates may be expected to do a short presentation of 15 minutes in English as part of an interview and provide evidence of written work, eg. dissertation or thesis. Senior Lecturer: • A doctoral degree in isiXhosa • At least five years’ experience in teaching isiXhosa to non-mother tongue speakers and service courses at tertiary level. • Experience in supervision of postgraduate theses and dissertations to completion • Experience of and a qualification in translation studies. Interpreting will be an advantage • At least three articles in accredited journals (published or formally accepted for publication) or the equivalent. • If shortlisted, candidates may be expected to do a short presentation of 15 minutes in English as part of an interview and provide evidence of written work, eg. dissertation or thesis. |
