This is a small dev team doing a big job and they’re expanding as the platforms gain success across Africa.

It’s not banking work but it is huge traffic, low latency, milliseconds response rates type of work.

Very flexible. Very much a tech, product shop with all the stereotypes that come with that. Lots of untaxed benefits (lunch, beer, arcade games etc). Lots of tech.

You’ll find two lines of work.

Your employer is expanding both their feature sets; they’re driving heavyweight optimisation (atm they are literally getting results in milliseconds in certain areas but there is some debt they need to bring inline); the debt demands upgrades into a .NET Core, Azure, Linux type of architecture.

Features of the job:

• Negatives – lots of releases, all the time (none on weekends tho). The very low margin for error. Some pressure but mostly mitigated by automation.
• Tons of new work with the added challenge of optimising your code to a level beyond anything in a vanilla dev job.
• Easy going, tech-driven management, lots of flexi-time – they believe more in delivery than they do clock watching.
• You can also drop the button-up shirts for the rest of your life.

Tech:

• It’s a C# shop. Right now they’re coding in v 7; but a big move across to .NET Core is being plotted.
• Their platforms are unlikely to move off-prem in the short term; but Azure is being introduced.
• They’re more interested in your engineering mindset than buzzwords, everything that follows would be nice but not essential:
• Swagger / REST for similar.
• Azure OR AWS OR GCP OR something else.
• Modern Javascript – Angular OR REACT OR VUE.JS – although they will also happily chat to back end devs.
• SQL Server – T-SQL is a staple for you but you also know how to get into nitty-gritty optimising and performance-based concepts.
• CI / CD type concepts – you’ve at least thought to yourself about how you would automate any repetitive task in your day.
• Openshift OR Kubernetes OR Docker or something similar – they don’t know what tools they’ll use yet but the concepts are coming soon.
