The Africa Banking design team focusses on product and service design for countries outside South Africa. We’re working on a range of web, app and chat based products, as well as new customer value propositions.  The team is led by a Product Design Director based in Cape Town, and spans Cape Town and Joburg.

We’re looking for a UX designer to join the team (we already have several). You won’t be alone, and you won’t be the smartest person in the room! But you will…

• Lead selected pieces of UX concept work to envision how future products or features will work, and look.
• Work with product managers, channel managers, tech leads, and other designers to get everyone aligned around the best solutions. 
• Take responsibility for key product epics and move them all the way from initial sketches to ultra-detailed execution.
• User test and iterate in our usability lab, and with support from people who do it all the time.
• Learn, discuss and teach as you work with design office peers who focus on different areas in the bank.

Working in Absa’s Design Office is no ordinary banking job.  We’re a large, well-funded force of design thinkers and design doers making a difference across the bank, and across Africa.  Our purpose: To solve problems, deliver great experiences and bring possibilities to life.

The Cape Town crew is based in a funky office off Kloof street. We’ve got a Barrista, a usability lab and a good attitude. This may be banking – but not as you’ve known it before.

Requirements

To land this role you need:

• 5+ years experience in UX design
• A practical understanding of human-centred design, and a passion for it
• Demonstrable skills in UX design including things like user journey mapping, wire framing, user research and testing, usable UI design
• A portfolio of work and war stories, including digital products, not just digital marketing
• To be a great listener, a persuasive talker and a patient influencer
• To have a real interest in how money and financial service affect people’s lives. Prior experience is useful.
