Cape Town – Proteas batting coach Neil McKenzie says that South Africa will not take the third and final one-day international (ODI) against Bangladesh lightly despite clinching the series.

The Proteas lead the three-match ODI series 2-0 with the final game scheduled in East London on Sunday.

McKenzie believes that despite the tour not going well for Bangladesh – there are positive signs.

“There are signs, there’s definitely no doom and gloom for the Bangladesh side,” McKenzie told reporters on Friday.

“I think it’s just when you run into a guy like AB de Villiers in his prime in Paarl last week.”

McKenzie admitted that the Proteas will not see the game as a “dead-rubber” despite winning the series.

“We’re just trying to win three-nil,” said the former Proteas batsman.

“You can’t underestimate any team and Bangladesh have showed over the last year and a half that they have played some good cricket at times. They beat Australia in a Test game and they’ve beaten South Africa in a couple of one-dayers,” he said.

“It’s another one-day international for us and it’s an honour playing for us. There’s no dead-rubber and we won’t take the game lightly.”

If the Proteas manage to whitewash Bangladesh, they will retain their No 1 position on the ICC ODI team rankings.

The third and final ODI gets underway on Sunday at Buffalo Park at 10:00.
