Environment:

A reputable media house based in Cape Town seeks a WordPress/PHP developer to join their open source team. Candidates must have six+ years of front end development experience working with HTML, CSS (SASS/LESS), JavaScript (Jquery, PHP, WordPress, and MySQL. Mobile first approach to development using responsive web technologies, troubleshooting and fixing bugs in existing WordPress sites.
Duties:

• Skilled in creating WordPress themes and especially plugins.
• Solid object-orientated PHP experience essential.
• Work closely with the UI Designers to translate their UI designs into pixel-perfect code.
• Ensure your code is W3C compliant and works across all popular browsers, both web and mobile-web.
• Skilled in creating newsletters and promo mailers which work across all mail clients.

Requirements:

Essential

• Six+ years of front-end development experience working with HTML, CSS (SASS/LESS), JavaScript (jQuery), PHP, WordPress and MySQL.
• Mobile-first approach to development using responsive web technologies (high load sites will have separate mobile templates and are not responsive).
• Troubleshooting and fixing bugs in existing WordPress sites.
• Version Control GIT.

Advantageous

• WP API.
• UI and UX Design principles.
• JavaScript frameworks/libraries; Angular, React and/or VueJS.
• Node JS.
• Previous experience on large internet sites with high traffic load.
• Dev ops (Linux, Ubuntu, Docker, Jenkins).

Skills and competencies

• A strong understanding of UI/UX design principles, with excellent attention to detail.
• The ability to be relied upon to ensure projects/tasks within areas of responsibility are completed in a timely manner.
• You must be able to monitor your own activities and take corrective action as and when necessary (good self-management).
• We expect you to work with others toward shared goals and by doing so meeting or exceeding them.
• Must be flexible about working with new methodologies and technologies.
